Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden Conservatory & Wick Lake
A watercolor-inspired visual language connects the expanded conservatory and gardens at Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden.
The expansion nearly doubled the size of the Conservatory and added 7.5 acres of new gardens. We developed environmental graphics, interpretive signage, and wayfinding that help visitors explore the expanded spaces while learning about the plants, butterflies, and climate zones they encounter along the way.
We created custom watercolor illustrations of butterflies and subtropical plants for the Conservatory, including a series of interpretive graphics for the Butterfly Emergence Gallery. Illustrated diagrams explain the butterfly life cycle and help visitors understand what happens inside the viewing window as caterpillars develop into butterflies. Climate-zone signage introduces visitors to each environment, while maps, directories, and donor recognition carry the visual language throughout the garden.
Custom watercolors and handdrawn illustrations appear across wallcoverings, maps, directories, and interpretive graphics, giving the expanded spaces a cohesive visual character.
English and Spanish translations are included throughout the signage, with large-scale typography to improve accessibility.
Donor recognition includes a dedicated donor wall as well as recognition incorporated into wayfinding and other signage throughout the garden.
