EGD is the intersection of communication design and the built environment through an interdisciplinary design process to convey stories, activate spaces, navigate visitors, educate learners, and engage users to their surroundings. Content and context clues are extremely important with how users identify with the space they are in. Each project, regardless of its building type, has a relation to its natural environment, historical, or geographic context. Pulling from inherent storylines as drivers in design can help differentiate any place in order to connect users to something that they can relate to.
We use a user focused approach to EGD that goes beyond graphic communication and navigation and aligns with a larger vision of spacial interaction. This approach has helped create effective communication while engaging, and often times educating the users as they interact with their environments.
